'Playing Pretend in the Interim'

Disclaimer: I couldn't think of a better title than Reese Lansangan's recently-released five-tack EP, as its literal meaning somehow encapsulates what I'm trying to convey in this piece. While you're at it, why not listen to her songs then? Personal favorite so far is Extended Vacation. Enjoy!

Whenever the rain pours, I hear again the sound of being in the temporary.

This fleeting urge to feel the warmth of another person resurfaces, making us long for cuddles and everything in between.

It sucks being in this moment, since we know it isn't bound to be permanent. We're just drawn by the raindrops that keeps on falling, while attempting to recall every good experience we've had so far.

We shouldn't blame ourselves and others for trying to notch a momentary bliss. It isn't something we can just control by mind conditioning alone. Giving in to our desires in whichever way possible is understandable. Acknowledging that we're vulnerable to the call of pleasure is a step ahead in keeping our sanity.

However, the problem lies when self-respect is inexistent. We shouldn't force ourselves to people, more so to strangers. We must maintain decency and not just jump on the train when a delectable sight is within reach. While it is normal to feel the sudden heat amidst the gripping cold, as logical humans can be, we should rise above it.

Or maybe not.

Writer's note: Bear with my randomness. I'm just trying to scribble down my thoughts once in a while.
